Since beginning of 50’ Mario Corti, together with his brother Silvio, an expert shoe’s maker, as worked in a still famous shoes factory, decided to start manufacturing shoes for their small shop.It was 1955 when Corti brothers began their adventure. They opened a small shoes laboratory to satisfy the always greater shoes requests. Until 80’ years production was addressed above all to local requirements. At that time Silvio decided to follow the trade way, and engaged the management of the shop, while Mario and his sons, Aldo and Giancarlo, two young boys grew up among shoes, decided to dedicate their efforts to the “art” of manufacturing shoes. Aldo, stylist and models creator, Giancarlo accountant with a real talent for business, persuaded “daddy Mario” to follow export ways. As at that time English style was the most successful on international market, Giancarlo decided to create “Courtley & Sons” brand, Courtley as an English mispronounce of name Corti, to give to the brand an international importance. During following years “Courtley & Sons” became a men and women shoes line, of classical, smart and English taste; but with careful attention to lasts and finishing leather’s details, exclusive and typical of “hand made in Italy” product. Lot of years have passed and the experiences got, even negative, led Corti’s family to realise that few people can understand the never-ending problems and details that let the shoe-maker an “art”, not only a simply job.

THE NORWAY STITCHING

Among our most complicated creations is the Norway stitching. We begin with this type of handiwork after the upper is skilfully stretched and nailed until it gets its final shape onto its last.
Three types of stitching are needed before this very sophisticated creation is accomplished.
It is the artisan himself who decides on the backstitch line on the outer part of the shoe as well as on the distance from one stitch to the other by tying up all the parts the shoe is made of.
The first stitching binds the upper onto the leather sole, whereas the second stitching -again- ties the upper after the latter has been turned inside out, to the central sole. It is clear then that during this phase the trim, which goes around the entire shoe and the sole, is not the welt but a true central leather sole, known as “intersole”.
Now, the final 5-mm leather sole is stitched onto the intersole thus making a through tied-up frame.
The premium entirely natural materials that we use guarantee an exclusive shoe comfort. With its impressive and intricate stitches, the fascinating Norway stitching is an example of real artisan masterpiece for those who love to wear strong shoes of artistic design.

In our workshop we have other creations and styles to meet all and any sophisticated needs and requirements from our clients. These may include: “Tubolar stichted onto the last” which is clearly another handiwork that ensures maximum flexibility for mostly summer shoes;

Then there is the “Bologna” stitching for increased elasticity and comfort; the “Tirolese” creation which is a development of the Norway technique towards a more intricate and tempting solution with distinctive and decisive features.

Minor imperfections are characteristics of this type of handiwork, which unlike machines, is not perfect.
